Byomkesh Gowtro : The first poster of the movie is out

byomkesh-gawtro-movie-posterWe Bengalis love Durga Puja and Detective stories like no one.

And when it comes to Byomkesh or Feluda stories that too in Puja nothing can be better than that.

Arindam Sil is back with his 'Byomkesh Gatro' this Puja October 18th.

The latest advancement is that the first poster of the movie is out today and it looks hell intriguing. We are loving it and for a reason.

As of till now we always have seen the iconic sleuth played by Abir Chatterjee, Byomkesh in a dhoti-kurta which is now replaced by a Modern day cloth three-piece suit and Cigar in his hand instead of a cigarette. The long coat is another thing that adds to its intrusiveness. However, at the same time, it makes us wonder what other changes the movie has gone through.

It will be interesting to watch Abir again in the role of Byomkesh, whose character suits him.

As per the poster, the Director Arindam Sil will be making it along with Subhankar Bhar as the man behind the lens and Pieces of music been composed by Bickram Ghosh. The ensemble cast includes Abir Chatterjee (obviously), Sohiuni Sarkar, Baisakhi Marjit, Anjan Dutta, Harsh Chayya, Priyanka Sarkar, Saurashi Maitri, Arjun Chakraborty, Bibriti Chatterjee, Indraashis Ray, Anindita Bose and last but not the least Joydeep Kundu.

As always the plot of the movie will be based on the Saradindo Bandopadhya's one of the Byomkesh novel; this time it's 'Rakter Daag' which will be tampered with.

The story of the movie starts with Satyakam, a young lad of 21 who comes to Byomkesh's house at Kolkata introducing himself as the son of business magnate from landour, Mussoorie. He is there for he feels that his life is under threat and he needs an assistant. He wants Byomkesh to come with him in Mussoorie and investigate the case which Byomkesh will fail to deny in return of the handsome amount that Satyakam has offered. But when The legendary detective heads to Mussoorie, he finds out that the youngster's worst fears have come true and Satyakam is killed. Movie advances with the question of...

"Can Byomkesh unravel the mystery shrouding Satyakam's murder before it is too late?"

And like always we know Byomkesh will. After all, there is a reason why we love him so much!

Sui Dhaaga :Made in India | Did Varun-Anushka turned convincing Desi Entrepreneur?

Sui-Dhaaga-Made-in-India-trailer-review-poster Sui-Dhaaga-Made-in-India-trailer-review-poster

"Ab Zindigi ke safar me th chalna padega paidal, Chahe mile ya na mile medal"

With something like this line the latest trailer of Varun Dhawan, Anushka Sharma starrer movie Sui-Dhaaga concludes. Inspired by the government’s ‘Make in India’ campaign, Sui Dhaaga sheds light on the life and struggles of artisans who ensure their art of embroidery doesn’t die.

The makers of  'Dum Lagake Haisa' is again ready to rock the silver screen with yet another simple but lovely aspiring story of Mauji aka Varun Dhawan, a skilled tailor's journey from a dust to a crown's jewel with the help and constant inspiration from his wife Mamta aka Anushka Sharma.

True to his name, he enjoys any work given to him. He does all kinds of jobs and is even treated badly by his masters, still he smiles.
She helps him start his own venture which later expands into a small-handloom industry. The story doesn't end here as the trailer suggests.

Let's talk about the Trailer  :
With the catch line of "kyu ji?.....sab badhiya hai.!" the trailer ends and we could not figure out whether the phrase should end with a question mark or exclamation mark. This line stands a significant role in the movie. We the common man of common crowd tend to accept everything, thinking whatever is happening is for good. thus believing "sab badhiya hai". This is why we feel the phase has been used again and again in the trailer to emphasize that its the story of yet another common man's journey.

The trailer starts like a story should start, first setting the background by telling how Chajju Ram went bankrupt leading its family in poverty while Mauji has still contended by whatever hardship he does. Next, we are introduced to his wife Mamta. She is depicted like a wife in village area should be-HOUSE-wife, in one word. He doesn't get to hang out with her too much. He is abused by his boss and disbelieved by his father too, still, he has contended. This is a thought of a common man who is happy with whatever he has, who never has a hunger for more.

We liked the lack of make-up on Anushka's face and the mustache on Varun's. Desi look that must be admitted.
The same is the case for Mauji, while his wife doesn't like him being getting insulted every day. Thus she enlightened him with an idea that he should start his own tailor shop. Though doubting on himself he is ready to accept the idea. Thus growing a small handloom company, where he must face some difficulty and thus restarting the whole project on his own forming a company "Sui-Dhaaga: Made in India"

➜ Suggested Reading:

The good and best part of the movie is its simplicity. We liked the lack of make-up on Anushka's face and the mustache on Varun's. Thier timing of dialogue delivery and emotions on their face especially of Muji's.He is our favorite man in the movie apart from Raghuveer sir. He is shameless and ever smiling and happy-natured-man. Everything is perfect. The story would be great no doubt about that but the Voice department is the place where I felt more work needs to be done. Like the innocence that Mauji's voice rather narrative should be felt is not felt in ears. His voice to us felt more like an adult trying to emulate a kid. His voice didn't felt that lost that his character is being depicted. Anushka Sharma though flawless in her acting and dialogue delivery, we at spillreview felt that she needs to get into the character more. Every time she is given this type of role she looks 'made up' or 'plastic' in our language. Take her role in Sultan. But that doesn't mean she is not looking good in this movie. She does cent percent judgment to her character.
Although we failed to point a major flaw, they were not as much convincing entrepreneur as the character of Akshay Kumar in 'Padman' was.

The inspiring music in the background is another thing that we at spillreview loved. Which means background score may have been taken well care of.

Director Sharat Kataruya does deserve a spill for his venture 'Sui Dhaaga'.

We always loved him for his simplistic movies.
Anyway, let's see if everything's badhiya?

Manmarziyaan trailer: Will Abhishek, Tapsee and Vicky showcase a love triangle again?

manmarziyaan-trailer-abhishek-bachchan-vicky-kaushal-tapsee-pannu

Manmarziyaan trailer is out and with it, Junior Bachchan is ready to rock again.

Though we still have some doubts.

The duo of Abhishek Bachchan and Vicky Kausal will be seen romancing Tapsee Pannu. Thus forming an intense Love triangle. Or might not be an intense one?
Produced by Anand L Rai and Phantom Films, the movie is scheduled for a September 14 release. The trailer says the movie is nothing new to be talked about. Like every new month or so we see a new love triangle story on the silver screen. Don't we? But the question is will this movie have something new in it? At spillreview, we didn't find anything interesting or new at all. What we felt about the movie was a strong cocktail of 'Tannu wed Mannu' and 'hum dil de chuke Sanam' or more or less 'Dhadkan'.

Let's talk about the Trailer  :
Though we don't feel doing a trailer analysis of this movie since there is nothing to be talked about still we did it only for Vishal Kaushal and Anurag Kashyup. The trailer is straight and simple most of the time. At the end of the trailer would be able to plot out the storyline by yourself too.Let's not talk about the storyline but the worst thing and the thing that they shouldn't have shown is the last seen where Tapsee and Junior Bachchan is seen walking. Later we come to know that they are out for their Honeymoon. Here. Here, we feel the whole spice of the movie is been leaked in just a few seconds. The storyline is repetitious yet the trailer until the end was interesting and everything looked nice but those few seconds totally drudged out want to go to the theatre to watch. Truly speaking we as an audience(spillreveiew) feels no spice or attracting factor there in the plot.Right from the beginning Vicky Kaushal man of the hour and Tapsee Pannu in  her happy-go-lucky avatar along with  Junior Bachchan, who is returning to the screen after two years in his turban look was capable of holding our interest and at a point made us think rather want to know at the end who gets to win Tapsee. In this type of plot based on the love triangle, it is very necessary to not tell the audience the outcome of the struggle.
Yes, and did we tell you that both the three of them look engrossed and good in their roles. They migh surprise us with a twist in the tale. Who knows?
Anyway, Let's see who is more complicated. People or love!

‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu’ trailer : Shahid Kapoor to fight for the power-theft issue?

batti-gul-meter-chalu-trailer-reaction

With ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu’'Toilet Ek Prem Katha' maker is all ready to explore the issue of power theft in small towns of India; starring Shahid Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor and Yami Gautam in the lead roles.

Undoubtedly it is one of the most common yet most unexplored issues in Indian cinema.

Trailer analysis :
The trailer starts with a punch. Shahid in a washroom peeing while the power is cut off. We already know what can be the real issue later by just watching the first few seconds of the movie- that is power theft.
First few second is also crafted carefully to showcase the friendship between Shahid Kapoor and Divyendu Sharma. They are 'bust-friend' actually; more than a friend I guess they meant.

There should be no doubt regarding Divyendu Sharma who seems fit for his character and will do justice. We have seen him previously in supporting roles in movies like Pyar ka Punchnama, Chasme Baddo, and Toilet.
Next, we are shown the romantic and humorous side of the movie. Though in this type of movie humor is something that will play the key recipe, we at spillreview believe. Shahid would Romance Shraddha, that should not last long as the very next moment the trailer turns a serious turn. How his friend sets up a printing business which soon comes under heavy debt for the high electricity bill.

Next few scenes in the movie are dedicated to the Shahid Kapoor who will take revenge for his friend's suicide.

Courtroom scenes, strong dialogues and light-humor in between will surely make the movie more awesome.

Story prediction :
The plot is simple and mostly rather completely evident in the trailer. That was the only negative point about the trailer we felt.
So the story could start with Shahid and Divyendu shown as two fast friends and how the other one helps to get a girl whom Shahid loves. Thier friendship must be shown as this is the concrete base for the second half. The first half should not constitute anything more than comedy, friendship, and love; how Karan(Divyendu) sets up a business. Interval some serious turn should have formed. Karan is bound to get into trouble as his company is about to gets closed since the electricity bill is so high. He may have tried to point against it but failed to cope thus a suicide. From here Shahid takes the lead again. Next 45 mins should be based on how Shahid takes the revenge for his friend and teaches a lesson to the board.

Courtroom scenes always excite us. Big thumbs up to that.
Courtroom scenes, strong dialogues and light-humor in between will surely make the movie more awesome.
Though a common storyline it seems, how good is it executed is the question that should attract most of the crowd. We, at spillreview, loved the trailer and is keen for the release. From the trailer, the movie seems well executed.

Stree movie Trailer Review | trailer analysis | story prediction |

So, so and so.

Stree movie Trailer Review | trailer analysis | story prediction |
Stree trailer is out and is looking mindblowing interesting.
From the trailer which looks promising for its genre is fantastically crafted, whatever the content of the movie be. The mix of comedy and horror is nothing new in this Bollywood; something that we see every next year every next director making a movie on it. Nevertheless, most of the movies either end up being 'a comedy which is horror', or 'a horror that is a comedy'. Bollywood has always been lacking a recipe for perfect horror comedy movie (not to mention our horror movie is no less than a lame joke); most of the movie lacks the balance between this two -pure horror or pure comedy or both. Although the movie 'Stree' looks promising with talented actor Rajkumar Rao in a role of Vicky tailor(most probably) of Chanderi village and Shraddha Kapoor as his ghosty girlfriend.

Trailer analysis :
First thing first. As we have been told 'Mard ko dard Hoga' in the movie and that it is ridiculously based on the true phenomenon -that phenomenon is The legend of Nala ba about a witch who knocks on people's doors at night. The person to respond to her call will be killed within the next 24 hours.

stree-trailer-review

Although the legend story is taken as a base as per our belief the movie is loosely based on thAT legend; like; about the witch who knocks at the door and the village people who in a manner to escape from her ,in actual incident used to write Nala ba(which is a Malayalam word meaning 'come tomorrow') to fool her.

From the trailer, we can interpret that the myth of 'Stree' has prevailed from the ages but she only visits the village during the festival and that only for four days.

The movie is balanced between the love story of Vicky and his girlfriend whose act seems creepy as described by his friends.

Story prediction :
Although the movie is based on the urban legend Nala ba, we believe it is only based on concept wise nothing else. The movie must start with a myth in the village getting stronger every year during the festival that the 'Stree' will be visiting them for she is hungry for love (as hinted in the trailer). It is when we will be introduced to Vicky (maybe a tailor or some nearer profession) who is having a hard time finding love for he is strange and innocent. Then the festival arrives and the preparation against the 'stree' takes the toll. Like love at sight, Vicky meets shraddha and falls for her while her strange behavior, sudden, and disappearance makes people believe she must be the ghost. This can be the probable reason why Vicky sets his team against the ghost to fight. Isn't?

probably. although in my version certain loose ends remain to be loose, like Wiki's page showing Shraddha Kapoor' character's name as 'stree'. Plus the trailer makes firm hints that the 'stree' in the hood is none other than Shraddha Kapoor's character.

Whatever be it, very soon it's going to unfold in nearest cinemas.

And yes, we at spillreview do believe Shraddha is not the real 'Stree'. What do you say?

Rating:  4 out of 5.

Story-Byte:
Based on a real-life story, Mulk revolves around the struggles of a Muslim joint family from a small town in India, who fight to reclaim their honor after a member of their family takes to terrorism.

Murad Ali with his joint family lives in a densely populated area of Varanasi. His daily chores include a tea from the 'Chaurasi Tea Stall' and a long chat session with his Hindu friends. His son is settled in London and his 'Hindu' daughter-in-law Aati is visiting them for some reason. Thier life turns upside down when his nephew is found guilty of for a bomb blast that killed many innocent lives. What happens next is the main story. Will he be able to cleanse the blame that his brother Bilal is equally guilty for they produced a terrorist?

Overall Movie Review :
Before entering the cinema halls, be ready to be challenged with the question of who is 'hum' and who is 'woh'? Aren't we meant to be 'us'? At the time when Indian Muslims are equally treated like a terrorist for any terrorist act, Anubhav Sinha is with his 'Mulk' trying to challenge the misguided belief that 'all the Muslims are terrorists'

Anubhav Sinha who until now has been busy making fluff-stuff movies like Ra.One and Dus, has joined the wagon of making social movies and made this political-masterpiece which attempts to humanize a community that has been demonized by some negative elements in the society. And it would be safe to say that Mulk doesn't take sides, doesn't make the Indian Muslim community a portrait of injured innocence.

Mulk right from the beginning holds an interesting plot thanks to Anubhav Sinha who spend time developing and capturing the culturally and communally harmonious Ganga-Jamuna tehzeeb, Where a Hindu is seen starting their day with a sound of azaan and a vegetarian Chaubey can eat kebabs on the sly at his Muslim neighbor’s home. The cinematographer has proved through his camera the everyday chaos and harmony residing in any community. The strength in the Hindu-Muslim relation is shown so harmoniously that at one point you could guess that this is what is going to be the toll in the chapter. And that is what happens. A small spark of jingoistic nationalism and all amity down.

The plot of the movie takes the actual pace when Shahid Mohammed, son of Bilal Mohammad was proven guilty of a bomb blast that killed many innocent lives but he refuses to surrender to the police. This incident was enough for the Mohammed family's life to turn upside down. Shahid’s father, Bilaal Mohammed (Manoj Pahwa) is taken into police custody under suspicion of being involved in terrorist activities. All the neighbors and distant family relation turns foe thus leaving Murad Ali with no option but to defend his brother and prove that they are equally loyal and honest as any Hindu in the country.

Mulk is heavily used to throw light on how people fall prey to political agendas that intend to divide the country on the basis of ‘us’ vs ‘them’. Through the dialogue-driven movie,it is said  again and again repeatedly that 'terrorism has no particular religion.'

Rishi Kapoor, as a patriarch in the role of Murad Ali, looks absolutely brilliant. For a moment you would not be able to differentiate that in real life he is a non-muslim. The pain in him for his family is visible throughout the movie. It wouldn't be wrong to say that Rishi Kapoor in his second inning is getting better day by day.

While Rishi Kapoor was a treat to eyes in his character, Bilal's character, played by Manoj Pahwa is no behind. He is equally amiable. Pahwa as the terror-accused father of a jihadi will make your heart melt with compassion and gullibility.
Also brilliant is the ever-capable Kumud Mishra as the judge presiding over a case that in many ways, changes the way we look at terror-accused families, not to mention court proceedings in our films.
Tapsee Pannu is another actor who through her courtroom scenes proves her steel. Although she delivers the best-written dialogues she at a time fails short, delivering monologues. Ashutosh Rana as a prosecutor is the best in himself. He knows exactly how and when and where a word or phase in a dialogue needs the attention while delivering it.

Prateik Babbar and Rajat Kapoor had some small screen shares but they do their work honestly and leaves no spot complaint.

Indeed being a seasoned actor, usp scenes were mostly given to either between Pahwa and Kapoor or to Pannu and Rana.

Talking about the music, it was the weakest part of the movie being having only a 'kawali' that interested us. Although we felt it was never a need. The screenplay was commendable which looked great accompanied by the good dialogue deliveries. Background score in the courtroom was another plus point.

The fight in conscious, between 'them' and 'hum', went well.

Final Spill Verdict :
Overall, 'Mulk'  is a struggle of a Muslim-family, who wants to challenge the misguided belief that 'all the Muslims are terrorists'
The final question ' Is it the 'hum' vs 'woh' that we wanted to see? Does it worth a watch?'
  • Yes, not only because it's a perfect entertainer but because at one point or other we all have made some different meaning of religion and reiterated it with extreme-patriotism rather jingoism.
  • Somewhat no, only if you are one who doesn't love to watch an eye-opening movie or is not a part of a human community. Because we, the human always have some kind of pre-build belief and one such is that Muslims are terrorist.
Should I watch?
There is be no particular reason why you should not watch this movie. With the great performance of Rishi Kapoor and other star casts, it's a cherry on the cake. Go watch it for whatever reason. We at least loved it.

It receives three and a half spill batches from us +half batch more to Anubhav for making a movie on this Sensitive topic:
